Is it possible for a doctor to mistakenly diagnose a cancer patient as terminal ?

i have this "friend" who says her doctor said she was terminal with 4 months left to live max. that was half a year ago and she's still alive. does this mean she's lying about the whole thing, can a doctor mistakenly think a patient is terminal?
