Determining heat gained?

If the temperature change is 8 degrees C and the m is 100gm and specific heat is 1 cal/gram degrees C. I know you multiply them together but idk if you are just supposed to take the numbers and multiply them and then just throw all the signs at the end of it? Idk really understand multiplying between different units. Now that is for element A, water. and I know that heat gain of element B is negative that of A. Since B had to give it off for A recieve it. SO then the formula to find the specific heat of A would be.......? and again how do perform multiplication/division (whichever is required in the formerly mentioned equation) between units?
