Ramadan: what do you think determines a person's attitude and outlook on life?

I wonder this everyday. I think its their upbringing, but I really don't know bc for me, I wasn't raised the way I act. For example, although my families Muslim, they were never truly devout like making Islam priority number one, but I try so hard to make it first. I also wasn't raised in an environment where I would be very social, yet I am. What do u think?
