I might like him, but my friends say he creeps them out?

There is this guy named Doug that hangs out with my two best friends. Well I hang out with them every morning before school starts and Doug is always there. One day, my best friend Haley told me that Doug likes me. I ask her bf John if he's a good guy. He tells me that he has bad hygiene, but I have seen him around school, and I don't see that. He likes the same band as me and he actually is pretty much like me. I haven't talked to him yet, I usually wait to see if he will talk. I have done some thinking and I think he's a pretty nice guy and my type. Haley told me that he creeps her out by being him, which I don't know how he acts. Should I start to talk and hang out with him to decide if I like him? What should I do?
