How was Michael Garoutte cousin to Louis XVI?

In a historical page, it says that Michael Garoutte was brought before King Louis XVI but dismissed over the normally death penalized charge of dueling because he was Louis' cousin. However, I'm trying to find the familial tie. Was it that Garoutte was related to Louis himself or Marie Antoinette? Or was there another related way to be cousins?
